Beckstein Productions Completes Tobacco Control Videos

July 2006

Porter Novelli Public Relations hired Beckstein Productions to produce a video to kick off a world conference on tobacco control, and what they got was a compelling, documentary-style video that captivated an audience of 5000 at the Washington, DC Convention Center. The video set the stage for the American Cancer Society conference and took an in-depth look at the tobacco pandemic across the globe. The conference was hosted by CNN’s Larry King and Dr. Sanjay Gupta.

The video was shown to an audience of tobacco control advocates and oncologists from across the world. DVDs were given to all 5000 in attendance. The DVD will be used as an educational tool throughout the world.

Beckstein was involved in every aspect of the production, including research, shooting, writing, and editing. The crew traveled to Hanover, New Hampshire to interview former U.S. Surgeon General, C. Everett Koop, who described what it was like being one of the pioneers in the U. S. as the tobacco control movement was just getting off the ground. Beckstein also traveled to Webster, Massachusetts to interview tobacco control advocate, Rick Stoddard, who told the very emotional story of what it was like losing his wife to lung cancer at just 46 years old. Stoddard now spends his time speaking to teens about the dangers or cigarette smoking.

Beckstein also produced two other videos for the conference. One focused on the science behind nicotine addiction and the other was a video message from the Prime Minister of Ireland, Bertie Ahern.
